Mixing Things Up…

The Splitcoast Product Focus review team has been playing with easy-to-use mixed media products in the Design Memory Craft line from art-giant, Faber-Castell. While I don’t participate in the formal review process, I try to use the product because I like to have a feel for what the team goes through. I like to make projects for the gallery, trouble shoot questions or concern (if there ever are any!), and sometimes I shoot various photos for the publication.

I really enjoyed working with this product. It made all of that mixed media/collagey/art journaling stuff so EASY.

After my trip to NYC last summer, I have such an infatuation with that beautiful city. My favorite building was The Chrysler Building all lit up at night. (“If this floor don’t shine like the top of the Chrysler Building, your backsides will.” – name that movie!) And, I have to say, there was something so cosmopolitan about standing in the middle of the street in theatre clothes and yelling CABBIE!

Very fun to make this mini ATC size canvas (I found both ATC size and 3×3″ square canvas at Dick Blick in San Diego last week) with Design Memory Craft supplies. I used blue and green gelatos for background color. I used the turquoise and yellow big brush markers to ink up my stamps. Notice how vibrant the yellow taxi cab is stamped over the gelato colored background. I’ve never stamped yellow over anything and been able to maintain such a vibrant color. Because the canvas has some tooth to it, I used the brush tip of the big brush marker to color in on the taxi. After the color and stamping were done, I added a little gel medium and glitter for razzle dazzle.

I’m not generally a mixed media type of girl, but was this ever easy!! Loved working with these mediums! In fact, I ordered a few more things to play with.

This is one of my last Valentine’s…I used the gesso from Design Memory Craft to create white space for my sentiment and to paint the edges of my cardstock. Love that rich opaque look.

  • Stamps: Chrysler Building and Taxi – manufacturer not known, but I got them at the cutest stamp store in NYC – The Ink Pad – ‘Make Life Shine’ sentiment made from several different Tayored Expressions stamps
  • Inks: gelatos, big brush markers, watercolor pencils, paint brush and gel medium – Design Memory Crafts
  • Accs: rhinestones – Taylor’s Tiny Twinkles – Taylored Expressions, glitter, key charm – unknown
