Coloring Faces and Hair

Thank you all for the sweet comments on my Verve Guest Diva post from Monday. You know how to make a girl feel fabulous! Still time to peek and post a comment for a chance to win a Verve voucher here.

I’m finishing up some Copic coloring today, crafting and packing for my workshop classes (Faces & Hair, Vintage Values, and Clothing and Accessories)  in Southern California next week. (There are spaces left in my classes and in Debbie’s classes in Vancouver, Canada – if you are in the area and have time to join us!)

This is a card that I created for another Hope You Can Cling To challenge at Splitcoaststampers! The image is a fun Saturated Canary. I love to color these images. They are fun, and they are GREAT practice for facial shadows, bone structure and clothing. I think this cutie is called Dutch Girl (but I can’t find her in the shop – I’ve had her quite a while!). Her skin is colored with E51 and E21, then I personally use E000 like a magic brush in any places that I need to smooth out. Since the surface area of her skin is so small on this print out, I can get by with 3 skin colors. The larger the area that you are coloring, the more colors that you probably want to introduce to create depth. Her hair is colored with E31, E33 and E37.

Faces Hair BookBraids are another topic specifically tackled in in Copic’s book, Coloring Foundations: Faces and Hair. Easy to understand text with detailed step out photos. We get wonderful feedback on our classes, and there is nothing quite like hands-on instruction and one-on-one feedback, but these books (there is one on flowers, too!) are a great value for self-guided learning.

This Saturated Canary digital image is called Traveling Colors. I printed it a little bit larger, so there are is room to work more color into her face – E51, E11, E21 and E000. Her hair braids are colored with E42, E44 and E47. She’s a little too big for a card front, so I’ll stick her in my sample image portfolio.

It’s time for me to clean up and clear off the crafty desk. I have had such fun crafting again the past few weeks, but I can’t make another single card until I do a little housekeeping… never a strong suit.

Thanks so much for stopping by! I’ll be back tomorrow…
