{ippity} love – stolen hearts

stolen-heart.jpg

{ippity} showed up on Saturday. Yep, it was a pretty decent mail day! (I ordered mine from JenMarie).  Love this set, Straight from the Heart,  designed by Lisa Hetrick.  She’s amazing.

stolen-heart1.jpg

I colored all of my hearts with different shades of R Copic Markers. Each one has a thin layer of clear glaze on it so they shine. Paper is more Ducks in a Row from October Afternoon, several trips around the card with my sew-mini  and one of my big Prima flowers. (I put about 20 of these together watching t.v. one day back in the summer.)

OK – two posts in one day – now it’s back to reality – laundry is calling my name, and I think my family wants to eat dinner tonight. See you soon!

build a home… build a life

it takes hands to build a house, but only {hearts} can build a home

tap..tap..tap…Is anyone out there?

I’m back from a unintended, but needed break from paper crafting. It felt really odd to be sitting at my stamp table this morning, and even more odd to not know where my USB cable had drifted off to in the last few weeks. Don’t you always find yours under the passenger seat of your car when it disappears? When I left off last month, I was in the middle of 3 or 4 big projects (work, PTO and home improvement). I’ve wrapped most of them up, and it feels good to be moving on.

For the Weekend Sketch Challenge, this is a card for my mom — we’re celebrating her birthday this weekend. My brother and his kids and my parents will arrive today, and I’m really looking forward to it – even though my house is a mess and I’ve not cooked a thing. 🙂 It’s always fun to spend time together.

To give you a hint of how sweet my mom is, she has just called from Costco in ‘the city’ to confirm a few things I had sent her on ‘my list’. Bless her heart – it’s the PTO paper goods list for the entire year. Then she’s stopping by two other stores to pick up things for me that I just can’t get here in town before she heads this way. I could really go on for hours about the many, many ways shes built our lives with love – of course – I’d be in tears because I just don’t fathom how a girl could be so fortunate. My mom blesses me, not by what she does, but for the woman she is.

As usual, more sketch-spiration from Beate, Cambria, Charmaine, Jenn, Laurie, Mary Jo and Sharon.  It’s good to be back, and I hope your weekend is full of wonderful moments.

Just For Fun: Sweet!

sweet-tree-lcraig.jpg

Every month, just for fun, I do a challenge with a few friends where one person picks a stamp image that they like and another friend picks some patterned paper. Then using only the selected patterned paper (with solid papers to coordinate) and the stamp, we each make our own card. A few weeks ago I got this sweet little package in the mail from Kim Hughes with this cute Twizzle Tree from Memory Box, compliments of sweet Ellen. (Thanks, Ellen!) Then a few days later, sweet Julie sent me a few pieces of this pretty double sided polka dot paper,  Pink Floral JustChillin’ Girl from Making Memories. So sweet!

I paper pieced the circles on the tree from the big floral print on the backside of the paper, and added the fun polka dot print from the front side and some pearls that I airbrushed with Copic ink. Ribbon from Papertrey and a sentiment from Unity…Sweet!  This came together very quickly, but I am happy. (That’s not always the case! LOL)

Make sure you check out all of the Just For Fun girls: Alli, Julie, Kim and Michele. I love these girls, and I love watching them work. 🙂

In other news: It’s a day full of blessings here in Midwest USA: new babies, pretty paint colors finally decided for an exterior face lift, hubby is returning safely from a long hunting trip, crisp fall weather… God is good!

WSC99: let’s hang out.

unity-tree-092509b.jpg

I can’t believe it’s sketch-99-time.  I remember way back when we started these – over 2 years ago. Good times.  Lots of stamping eye candy this morning if you visit the Girl Fridays: Beate, Cambria, Charmaine, Jenn, Laurie, Mary Jo and sweet Sharon.

I made a quick trip to Minneapolis last week, and when I returned, I had this darling vine pattern stamp included as a freebie with my Unity Kit of the Month. I immediately wanted to stamp it in a repeated pattern and hang flowers on the stems. I should have looked for a different sentiment, but I’m in the midst of ‘PTO bliss’ around here, we’re lucky I stamped at all! HA!

The paper is just a smidgen of the goodness that I found at Archiver’s last week. It’s Blue Sky from American Crafts. Love that paper line.

Today’s agenda: a full day’s work, finalize color selection for some painting that we’re having done, make 10 more pints of salsa, clean out my oldest daughter’s room in preparation for a weekend visitor and get ready for a host of fabulous parents to help me wrap up the annual ‘PTO bliss’ (aka fall fundraiser).

Hope you have a great day!

WSC96: Dream

wsc96.jpg

A quick card for the sketch as we approach the weekend. I used the Dream sentiment from the {100% Happiness} store kit from Unity and some textured Core’dinations cardstock along with Earth Love – Cosmo Cricket.

wsc96-lcraig.jpg

I stamped the sentiment in Chocolate Chip Craft ink and embossed with detailed clear embossing powder. Applied some chalk ink to soften the edges of my cardstock and stitched on my sew-mini. Another stacked Prima/button embellishment from my stash.

I’m short on the chatter today, but these girls will make up for it with beautiful samples. Check out Beate, Charmaine, Laurie, Mary Jo and Sharon for fabulous sketch-spiration this week (and every week). Have a wonderful weekend!

Divine Design: Let your light shine…

september-2009.jpg

You are the light of the world. Let your light shine out for all to see! ~ Matthew 5:14-16

Every month on the 9th, I try to share a project inspired by Scripture for a challenge at Splitcoaststampers called Divine Design.  All are welcome to participate. The only requirement is that your project contain a Bible verse. Most often I choose 6×6 cards that I display on a wooden stand in my stamp room.

september-2009b.jpg

I picked up a new Bible study book the other day called Annointed, Transformed, Redeemed, a Study of David.  It will be the fall women’s study at my church. As I leafed through the early pages, this verse jumped out from Matthew. “Let your light shine out for all to see!”

sept-lamp.jpg

This lamp that hangs in my kitchen was an inspiration piece for the layout of the project. I can see this lamp from my workdesk, and I love to look at it even though it might not necessarily fit in with the rest of my kitchen. You know what? Even when it doesn’t fit, it’s light still shines. It lights meals and laughter, homework and bill paying, magazine browsing and Bible studying, friendship gatherings and long, lost sock matching. My family sits under this lamp in sad times and good times and all those in between. I pray we’re like this lamp, even with it’s off-center glass chimney. No matter the circumstance, I hope we still shine for Him.

If you missed my post last night, here’s a reminder to check out the Scripture Chicks Angel Wilde, Jami Bova, Nancy Morgan and Taylor VanBruggen. I {adore} these girls.

Fall Flair

simple-blessings-lcraig-090409.jpg

Is it Friday yet? It’s just been one of those weeks, and setting down to stamp with some Unity lovin’ rubber was just what I needed.

simple-blessings-lcraig-090409b.jpg

I used the Weekend Sketch by Beate and a new Unity set called Simple Blessings. Love the distressed patterns in the pumpkins of this kit. For the first time in ages, I stamped my backgrounds. I’m gonna start using some of those backgrounders, again. I like that. 🙂 I pulled my colors from Dawn’s color combo of the week – The whole thing was easy peasy.  Hey, it was just like old times, I even used a sponge dauber.

The Unity set is available to retail stores only right now. You can find it at Paper Maniacs, celebrating their grand opening this week. Psst – they have the Unity September Store Kit of the Month, Everything Extraordinary there, too. Use the coupon GRAND15 to save 15%, and check out the great product selections.

Now, it’s time for me to go see what the other sketch girls cooked up. I’m in need of paper-therapy today, and they never disappoint. You can see them to:

Cambria Turnbow, Charmaine Ikach, Jenn Balcer, Laurie Schmidlin, Mary Jo AlbrightSharon Harnist and Beate Johns – enjoy!

The glory, Lord, be thine…

 jiffy-083109-close.jpg

…let our songs with joy resound, – The glory, Lord, be Thine.

Every month, I participate in a little challenge between friends, Just For Fun. This month Alli Miles selected a Unity image that she liked and asked a few of us to give it a whirl. Myself, Kim Hughes, Julie Campbell and Michele Boyer took on the challenge and paired it with some Graphic 45 Hot Tomato paper that Carole Burrage liked and was so sweet to send. That’s how we do the Just for Fun challenge. I can’t wait to see how their projects turned out. I know they’ll be fabulous.

jiffy-083109.jpg

I stamped my bird from the Unity July Kit of the Month on kraft cardstock, cut with a Spellbinders die, inked the edges with a cream chalk ink and proceeded to cover it with several layers of ultra-thick embossing powder (UTEE).  I love how UTEE gives your images an epoxy look, like an enamel charm or glass window.

Then it was time for a sentiment. Months and months ago, my friend Sandy Redburn from Crafty Secrets (no one does vintage quite like Sandy!) had a beautiful old hymn as a free download on her blog. It’s been sitting on my desktop just waiting to be printed and live out it’s days on a crafty creation. Yesterday was that day.  I loved it so much, that I might do it again. The sentiment that shows reads, “..let our songs with joy resound, – The glory, Lord, be Thine.” from the original song, “Sing Joyfully, Sing Cheerily”.

The patterned paper, the bird, the sentiment tag, Prima flowers and of course, buttons were layered onto a Blush Red, and then a Suede Dark Brown Chocolate square, both from Prism. All the layers were stitched snug and mounted on a 5.25″ square Kraft card.

I wasn’t originally digging the image/paper pairing, but I am loving how this turned out.  Now I just need to find more of that Graphic 45 paper. 🙁

WSC92: Love Beyond Measure

 wsc92-close-lcraig.jpg

Weekend Sketch Challenge 92: Love Beyond Measure from the Unity 100% Happy set.  I adore this image and immediately knew I would rip a page out of an old Grange cookbook. Does anyone know what the Grange is anymore? I remember the Grange Hall being on the same country road as my grandparent’s farm when I was a little girl. I smiled as I looked thru all of these recipes from the 50 and 60s – do they still sell Dream Whip in stores?

wsc92-lcraig.jpg

You can see the sketch on Sharon’s blog this morning. Loved this one.  I used Cherry Pie paper from Cosmo Cricket’s Early Bird collection and matched it up with this Spring Willow Medium from Prism – color inspiration from an apron that I have of my grandma’s. I cut the focal images with Nestabilities and stitched – around the circle – I’ve been asked how I get even stitching on the circle and oval images – I turn the wheel on the sewing machine by hand when I want stitching in non-straight lines.  The image is colored with Copic Markers and then accent with clear Sukura glaze. The ribbon is silk from May Arts. I {heart} this stuff – so thin – ties beautifully – knots lay flat – ribbon perfection.

More sketch-spiration can be found if you visit Beate, Cambria, Charmaine, Jenn and Laurie.

unity-cha2009.jpg

Chris and Angela from Unity were at our very first cupcake event for advertisers in Anaheim 2008 – before the first stamp had been sold. Here we are at the SCS booth at the CHA SuperShow last weekend where they hosted a darling luggage tag Make & Take. We’ve never crossed paths with the Magnuson family in any fashion that they weren’t smiling, laughing and optimistic. Unity peeps = beautiful people.

I’ve actually got several other cards to post in the next day or two.  I always come home from CHA with creative brain overload – and it’s a wonder I can harness any of that for one particular project again, but I try.  I’ll try to post another card over the weekend. Hope your next few days are filled with moderate temps, plenty of sunshine and clear blue skies. Happy Friday!

WSC83: Happy Home

wsc83a-lcraig-052909.jpg

Happy Weekend! I’ve got an easy sketch for you today. It’s gonna be a pretty, pretty weekend, and I wanted this to be quick and easy for you. <wink> You can scroll down one post for the official sketch. 🙂

I used today’s sketch with the May Unity Kit-of-the-Month. I had fun coloring the other night while I watched George Strait’s Artist of the Decade Tribute. Did anyone else get a chance to watch? I have always loved George Straight. I used to be way into the country music thing, so it was fun to flash back to my 20s and think about all the rodeo and dance hall concerts back in the day.

I thought all of the performers did a great job. They each picked a favored George Strait song and sang.  My favorite artist presentation was probably Taylor Swift, suprisingly, but she sang ‘Run’ — and I love that song. Of course, Garth Brooks summed it up perfectly at the end of the night when he said, ‘no one sings George Strait, like George Strait’. George closed the show with Troubador.

Just double-click. And, you are welcome. 🙂

Copic Markers YR16, R11, R43 , E79 and a crocheted chocolate blossom make quick work of this one. Patterned paper is from Stampin’ Up!

Hubby is off today, and we’re shopping for bathroom fixtures as we get ready for a bathroom remodel. I’m super excited about the remodel, but wonder if we’ll still be on speaking terms when it’s all said and done.  Thanks for stopping by! Have a super weekend!
