January 10th, 2008

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14
Have you ever had a feeling that you were supposed to do something? You aren’t sure just what the something is, but something… If I pray about it, He usually helps me figure out what that something is. When I started my blog, I wanted it to be a place where I could help to ‘make a difference’ by sharing things the Lord tries to accomplish through me, projects to inspire people I care about a Fresh Word every now and again. In the new year, I’m going to ‘make it happen’.
At first, I was going to bring about 31 days of Proverbs, but honestly, I’m not well studied in the book of Proverbs. So that didn’t feel genuine as I went about writing the initial posts. Then it came to me to share what you love…scripture that’s touched my heart. I’ll be reflecting and working on memorizing scriptures that I put in this altered journal throughout 2008.

I don’t know about you, but I do better at resolutions if I am committed with someone else. So, I began to think about who would help hold me accountable to this committment to share scripture, regularly. Stamping has afforded me some wonderful, wonderful friendships, and I have been blessed to meet many godly women across the US in the last 7 years.
In 2008, on the 8th of each month, following today 4 of my friends (and I have hugged each one of these girls in real life LOL!) and I will bring you a scripture that has touched us that month. We will each be working on our own project through out the year, that by December will be filled with the Word. I encourage you to join us, don’t set your sights on something unattainable…think one or two cards per month. I’ll be setting up a thread at SCS for folks to load, and I’ll edit this post with a link when I get that done later this morning. Let’s work it together to put a little more Jesus on the web this year. Are you in?
The scripture chicks are:
Angel Wilde - Angelosity - Angel and I met through Stampin’ Discuss 5 years ago when we both lived in Wichita, KS. We share a love for Beth Moore Bible studies and a passion for paper crafts. Angel lives in the deep south - Middle Georgia.
Jami Sibley - More is More - Jami and I have been moderators together at SCS for 2 years. We both love adult Sunday School and trying to figure out how we apply what we learn to our everyday life. We’ve gotten together at SCS functions twice, and I am looking forward to seeing her in her beautiful, native sunny California in just 4 short weeks.
Nancy Morgan - Paper Smiles - Nancy and I met in Portland last October. She is just the sweetest spirit you could meet. She’s a fabulous paper-crafter, and she was a strong encourager to me to keep sharing the Word.
Taylor Van Bruggen - Taylored Expressions - I met Taylor last May when I was at SoCal Stamp Mania. Along with loving the Lord, we share an appreciation for growing up in the midwest and being over 6 foot tall. I’ll look forward to seeing Taylor again in just a few weeks, too!
You’ll find much shorter updates each month on the 8th, maybe other times through the month. But, you can always see the work in progress by clicking Divine Design at the right. Thanks for stopping by.

Lori, thanks again for including me in the wonderful challenge for 2008! I’m truly honored to be serving the Lord alongside you and the other mega talented Scripture Chicks = )!! I love your project and your choice of scripture…blessings to you my friend, nancy
January 10th, 2008 at 11:20 am
Right there you captured it! What a great scripture. I am SO looking forward to seeing how this develops. You’re so sweet and SO smart! (SO must be my word today…LOL)
January 10th, 2008 at 11:20 am
OH…. and I LOVE your project!
January 10th, 2008 at 11:27 am
What a wonderful idea! Funny you should post this now as I’ve been thinking that I should make a journal for me to use as I work through the Proverbs 31 daily devotional…http://proverbs31.gospelcom.net/. You have certainly encouraged me that it is indeed what I should do. Thank you for following God’s call in your heart! I look forward to your posts on the 8th of the month!
January 10th, 2008 at 11:28 am
I LOVE this! Such a great thing Lori and a wonderful way to “Make a Difference”! I will definitely try to participate - thanks for the inspiration!
January 10th, 2008 at 11:42 am
Lori, you are definitely ‘making a difference’! I appreciate you asking me to join and holding me accountable for something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. Your verse says it all and I pray that as the months go by, His word will indeed be dwelling among us.
January 10th, 2008 at 11:45 am
I would love to participate along with the Divine Divas! I too need the support of others to take on the task of memorizing scripture. This is a great way to combine our love for Christ with our love for crafting! Since he blessed us with our gift for craft, we need to use it then for his glory! Thanks for the challenge. I’m going to go put it on my calendar.
Hugs,
Amy

wonderful project Lori!
January 10th, 2008 at 1:11 pm
Lori my sweet friend! Thank you so much for following His leading and starting this challenge. The accountability is exactly what I need. I’m excited to see where this goes throughout the year. The verse you chose really speaks to the *awesome* nature of our Savior! Beautiful project!
January 10th, 2008 at 1:27 pm
Lori, please count me in, if you would. I’ve been wondering how I could mesh my real passion with my stamping. This will be a perfect avenue to start with!!
Thank you for being a blessing!
January 10th, 2008 at 1:30 pm
Well done
Great way to mix two things that you love! May you be richly blessed
January 10th, 2008 at 2:42 pm
“As iron sharpens iron, so one friend sharpens another.” ….my favorite proverb! You go girl - thanks for your talent, inspiration, and grace. Most of all, thanks for the light you shine for Christ. Shine on!!!
January 10th, 2008 at 3:08 pm
That is a great idea. I will try to do this too. Did you print that scripture or did you have a stamp? I have only a few scripture stamps.
Great idea and love your blog!
January 10th, 2008 at 3:09 pm
Lori, I read about this through Angel and Taylor’s blogs and it just warms my heart to hear the story behind it. God bless you for listening to His leading. I know you will find great joy in sharing His word and your projects and I look forward to following along. Hugs~ Patti

This is just downright awesome! I love it when the Lord crosses my spiritual world with my stamping world. He can do such amazing things! I will definitely be checking back in on the 8’s! What a fabulous idea!
ps…My favorite verse is “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; acknowledge Him in all your ways and He will direct your path.” So many times things happen that I don’t understand and I want to jump in and “fix” them…that verse tells me that I don’t need to understand…I just need to trust Him and everything will be OK…
January 10th, 2008 at 9:57 pm
Oh my gosh! I just found your blog through Taylor. What an amazing idea! I definitely want to join in! This is something I’ve been looking to do forever… but needed some motivation! So… I start looking through your site and just froze! Your work is amazing!… and then I saw your face!— you’re the person I’ve been chatting with all day on CHF’s forum! This team rocks! And we all get to hang out in a few weeks?!? I’m adding you to my Google Reader right now! I don’t want to miss a thing!
January 10th, 2008 at 10:05 pm
Incredible idea! Way to mix the One we love with what we love to do! I’m gonna give it a whirl! Thanks Lori!
January 10th, 2008 at 10:07 pm
Hello. I just found your blog through the Paper Smiles blog and I have to tell you that I love your work. And I am definitely going to be playing along in the challenge for the scripture cards! Thanks for the inspiration!

January 11th, 2008 at 12:03 am
Wonderful Lori! What size have you got here? Yes, I know I could do any size, but I want to know what you’ve done?!
So are you decorating one page a month then? Did you spiral bind this yourself or are you using a notebook and attaching the Scripture art to the notebook page? I may try it the small notebook way - then I could write my thoughts and experiences regarding that particular Scripture on the back of the page too. It is always amazing to go back and read old journals to see how God is moving through my life. I am praying for everyone who wants to do this, inlcuding myself, for our commitment to stay strong! Just imagine doing one of these for every year! What awesome journaling for us to reflect on, and for our kids to see and get to know us better.
January 11th, 2008 at 2:02 am
I am so in….what a great idea!!! What great way of spreading Gods word!!! (((Hugs)))
January 11th, 2008 at 6:04 am
Thank you for this. This is not only a wonderful way to study and enjoy our Lord’s word but an awesome way to find other God loving stampers. After all we are not only sisters in stamping but sisters in Christ too! I am going to put this on my calendar and remember to post to SCS and my blog each month! Thank you again.
January 11th, 2008 at 7:02 am
Lori- thanks for challenging me, I have joined you ladies and hope I can keep up with you all monthly! This is a great display of faith and I just love giving these cards!

Lori, it makes my heart *so happy* to see you sharing your faith, and so BEAUTIFULLY! I look forward to checking in on the 8th (and hopefully playing, too). I’m so grateful that you’re a part of my life . . . look what wonderful things you bring to it!
January 11th, 2008 at 4:04 pm
Lori, what a wonderful thing to do! I hear you on the accountability part. . . That’s something I’m trying to start more of this year too. {{{hugs}}}
January 11th, 2008 at 4:38 pm
You are awesome, Lori! I so miss you being just up the road and admire the way you always just find a way to connect Christ with those around you. Thanks for including me - one of your non-stamping friends! - on this awesome thing you started. And my hat’s off to all you stampers who are taking on her challenge! Jen

Lori,
One of the gals on my online group shared your Scripture Chick idea with me and I am challenging my small group to sign up to participate in a similar activity! We love it! What a great idea to help us focus even more on the Word! Thank you so much!!! God works in wonderful ways to spread the gospel!

I’ve finally caught up! Woohoo! I uploaded to SCS you can see it here: http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=16250
And will hopefully have it up on my blog Feb. 1st.
I’ve got the passage half memorized, and will keep working at it while I begin thinking about the new bookmark design for the next verse.
February 4th, 2008 at 5:31 pm
Lori, I just found this and it sounds like such a wonderful idea. I have some questions.
1. Is it just one verse a month and at the end of the year you have 12?
2. you say ‘cards’, but yours looks like a flip calendar type of thing, not sure I quite understand what we are creating
3. a WONDERFUL study on Proverbs 31 is the book Becoming a Woman Who Pleases God by Pat Ennis & Lisa Tatlock-gives you a whole new understanding of the Prov 31 woman. I was in a Bible Study using this book at my church and we called our group of ladies Wise Women (Wise being an acronym for Women Instructing, Serving, Encouraging).
Anyway, I would love to join you all in doing this. Please e-mail me the answers to my questions if you can.
Thanks,
debbie

Candice, I absolutely love your show! God gave you a wonderful gift, so don’t forget to honor it. Much to my chagrin, I don’t see enough faces of color (particularly, African Americans) on your show. Is consideration given to designing their homes for viewership? They like beauty, style, and elegance, too. Again, I am disappointed that I am never introduced to makeovers done with us in mind. Thanks for your consideration toward broadening your client base.
